So here we are early in the morning to start the pigs. My brother-in-law Dan was kind enough to get out of bed early on a Sunday morning and make it out here before 8:00 a.m. Tom was just out getting the trailer cleared from the brush I left on there before the last snow. He had made a half door for the pigs to keep ones in that needed to be while he took care of business with one outside. Dan stood back while things were taken care of, then he stepped in and did the hard work. Loading them onto the wagon. They had heave ho'd two of them before I got out there. The medium guy was the last to go. Tom took the tractor up front and butted the truck up to the wagon where all three of us tried to lift and then roll the pigs up into the bed of the truck. Easier than ground to trailer. Covered them up really good and off they went. I met them over at the friends house. They had the water just about ready and had one of the pigs hung and dipped already. To our surprise, Ken was one of the ones using the bell to scrape. Seems Jessalyn put a bug in his ear and he showed up at the friends house just minutes before Tom and Dan pulled in. Ken got his turn at splitting, and came away with the heart and liver.
Did well with hang weight at 140, 200, and 220, approximately. So all in all it was still about an hour per pig. But that is not the cut and wrap. We will go back after a few days and do it then.
