Good-bye van!
Tuesday Tom took the van for it's final drive. It was time. It was tired. The close to another era. Later in the day he and I went over to friends house and helped them process their swine. They have it down to an hour per pig, less wrap time. They have such a neat set up to hang it in a walk in cooler so they can wrap at their leisure. The snow began to fall shortly after starting the first pig, and after the second you could feel the cold fall in. They kindly took a break and we went in so I could warm my toes. Then to the last pig. They also were kind enough to offer up their setup to us so we could process ours in the coming days. Always the 11th hour with us. Tom is never stop and we are never caught up. You would think that as busy as he constantly is he would have some time off. Not necessarily. Of course, I can't imagine either of us ever sitting back retiring. We will always be off our rocker!!!!
So the storm has blown in and has settled in a few inches of wet heavy snow. Makes everything look clean and neat, but we know better. Mud underlays the path to the barn. We are not cold though. The coal stove is keeping us warm. Keeping a pot on the stove, it keeps the water hot too. Good thing as when we were over doing pigs, the water heater gave out. It was giving us problems, but as soon as Jess jumped in the shower she heard a bang. She thought the cats knocked something over in the house. Must have been the element giving out. Bad smell and black chunks all over in front of it.
Good thing the van was traded in. Helped pay for the new heater. Money in, money out. What money?
Going from propane to electric. Also a bit smaller, from 40 to 30. Let's see what it does to the electric bill. Now the propane is only for the stove. Haven't run the furnace in over three years.
