Grandma and Grandpa came out one last time before they were to head back south. They are getting things tied up and batten down. I know Dad is getting excited to go back. It is getting so very cold here in the mornings lately. I have had to turn on the little heater for a bit in the morning, but still no fire!
Tom had picked up 50 bags of coal that needed stored. Although cold in the morning, the days and nights aren't to bad, so hopefully that will not be broke into for a while yet. I did have him bring home the pool cover too to close up the pool, but I am still working at getting it cleaned out of leaves, and besides, it has to be drained and I hate to waste the water. I have been taking it and doing all the nasty laundry instead of using well water. All the dog/cat bedding, rugs, outdoor clothing. Anything I can get away with.
I'd like to mow again, but the dew is so heavy it takes all day to dry off. This is helping the back pasture though. It is growing up again. It never got really bad, or bare this year even with the horses out there. Good weather keeps them out all day. We have yet to touch the hay up in the loft, and keeping high hopes that we won't have to do that until November. Maybe it will carry us through until spring and we won't have to haul at all!
Now that I have done some apples, a neighbor offered up some pears from her gloriously filled tree! It was so abundant the branches were just sagging to the ground. They still need to ripen a little, but I think Tom will appreciate them this year. It had been two or three years since the last time I canned any pears.
