This morning I woke up and started the fire in the stove, a tub of laundry, and started cooking the bacon that Tom had bought for us as a treat while he was gone.
He is probably up now as I type, getting dressed to go out in the woods. He went up to the Allegany Mountains with a few fellas from church again this year. I think the weather is a little better than last, and maybe he will at least see one out and about. He had taken half a day yesterday so he could shop for eats and pack his gear.
I had Tommy make new laying boxes for them and put them in the back of the coup, moving the older chickens to the front where the meat birds were. Tom wants me to take them off to the sale barn since they aren't laying. He doesn't want to butcher them now in the cold weather, but maybe someone else would. Belle is missing. She has been gone a week now up to the neighbors. I hope she is behaving and going to come home bred. I am runnining out of cheese!
While we were out this week, Tommy bought a few chestnuts. He scored them, boiled them, then roasted them in the stove.
