Women's Day

Sunday afternoon we had our Women's Dinner at church.  Seventy women and young ladies were treated to a great meal served by the church men.   The table was filled with ham, sweet potato casseroles, noodle and  broccoli casseroles, and plenty of pies!  Rebekah said I embarrassed myself when they brought out the tray with cheesecake on it.   But it was soooo good!

After the dinner, the men cleaned up as the ladies moved into the sanctuary for the entertainment.   We had a lovely woman who brought many friends to talk with us.  (She was a ventriloquist).   Lots of light laughter.  It was an enjoyable afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Tommy surprised us by riding his bike out in the rain.  He came 20 out in the rain to visit.  I felt bad because he didn't know we had the banquet to go to shortly after he arrived.   He did call up his brother and convinced him to give him a ride home though so he didn't have to bike all the way back in the cold.  He said he just wanted to hang out with family for a while.  He got Ken here, so it was nice to see all the kids at one time.

They didn't all make it into town on Saturday to see Grandma and Grandpa.  They have come back home for the summer.   Surprise!  They came home to rain and lower temperatures for sure.  They missed all the warm weather we had the previous week.  We caught up on the events they missed, like Grandpa's birthday, Mother's Day.  When it dries up Jessalyn is going to go in and mow for them.  We are ever waiting for things to dry back up.

In fact, it had rained so much the last few days that it tested my raised beds in the garden.  Looks like they will do o.k.!  I have rivers running between them.  It looks like my little Italy out there.   All I need is little gondola's floating in between the wood runners and it would be like Venice!  I had a gentleman ask me about the garden  and if I was worried about frost yet.  I spoke to soon in my confidence.  I went out last evening and used the plastic bottles to cover my tender greens.  It didn't frost, but it wasn't far from it.   I didn't do the stawberries either.   To big an area.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for these 200 plants.
