Grandma was worried her piece of Christmas birthday cake would be stale. She made it to the party. The Angels are rejoicing.
Christmas night my mom called a little after 3 a.m. to tell me Grandma had passed away. She was awake and Mom was asking her if she wanted a little water. She told her no, then took a few breaths and was gone. She and Dad were both there, but it doesn't make it any easier I think. I was glad that I had talked to her Christmas morning. I keep thinking, wait! I just want to say one more thing. Just one more!
It didn't take long for making arrangements as she had all ready told everyone what she wanted. Dad made the phone calls to all the friends and family over the next few days, Mom taking care of the personal belongings.
She told me they went and picked out a really pretty baby blue urn for her. The funeral home also gave a miniture replica as a rememberance. I thought that was nice. They will wait and she will ride back up with them in the spring when it is warmer for Dad and he can move around and finish the necessaries more easily.
Grandma liked being in the south, and I am glad that she got to go there one more time. Events with Dad on the start of the trip had them held over at Dad's cousin Jacks for three weeks. Now, I see how God turned that into a blessing for them and for her. Even though there were a lot of trips to the hospital, I'm glad that Dad and Mom were both there with her. If she were up North, it just wouldn't have been the same.
So now we try and go about our business before we eat Birthday cake too, Grandma.
Our lives change again.
