Warmer days

How exciting!   Ken called me yesterday and told me he is busy this weekend going to a class at a local fire hall.   He is going to be going for his EVO permit.  This will allow him to drive the emergency vehicles.   This is exciting!  It is two whole days of training.   I wonder what he will do next?

Yes, spring is coming.  It is teasing us tremedously!   The warm sunshine is pushing my new grapefruits right up out of the pots!  I planted 72 seedlings yesterday.  It is a start.  I will have to get another tray to start on the leftover veggies and flowers.  I want a good start on the blooms before I put them in hanging baskets this year.   I have this picture on my front wall that was given to one of  my Grandmothers  many years ago. Don't you just love the frame? And   I love looking at these needlepoint blooms.   It makes the snow not seem so bad, and inspires me for spring.  In fact, it was so nice yesterday, Rebekah and I went walking.  I did two miles, hoping that I can get out there at least three times a week.  I'd like to get up to  4 miles a day by summer.  I also  hope that  I can take 2 lbs off a week and by June I will be right back to where I want to be.  Doesn't seem hard now that the thin mint  girl scout cookies are gone!

We are studying Civil War in history.  The girls and I have been taking turns reading from many different resources the events and peoples of that time.   I came across the two main rations that the yankees and confederates ate, so I thought  we would give it a try.  The Union soldiers ate hardtack (the flat, cracker type bread) and the Confederates ate Johnny cakes (the yellow cornbread).   We tried the latter with molasses and then butter, as they did.  It wasn't bad.  The hardtack tasted like communion bread. Nothing like the MRE's that Tommy was eating, I'm sure!

Time is drawing near for the year end dance recital.   Rebekah got one of her two cosutmes last class.  She is going to be a toy soldier.  I don't know how they are going to be able to keep their hats on.  They are very tall hats!

Jessalyn won $200 from OHC for her accomplishments during the riding season.  She was so excited!  From the whole state of OH, she placed 4th!  This weekend she is going to a tack sale and is allowed to spend some, but most will go right into the bank, of course.    Now the club is having another contest for best photo.   I would love to send in this one, but as you can see, I had to doctor it up so that won't happen.  It was a chance for me to try my hand at computer playing.  This is really her, and this is really her jumping Dusty,  but the original picture cut off Jess' head.  I took a good one of her "lid" and super-imposed it on.   Now, if I could figure out how to fix the background.  Maybe it's something Tommy can play with in his spare time?
