Canning and freezing

The last few days have been so tiring! I have been working on the apples that I had picked up last week. Making sauce, slicing and freezing for pies. Before the cold set in, I took my youngest daughter out to the local vineyards and picked about 40# of grapes. Most were white as I wanted to try to make white grape juice. It really wasn’t that hard, but it seems that after the washing and soaking those ants and spiders would have disappeared. The still were coming out as we were picking them off the stems.

It was a long day Tuesday as that is when we picked, then coming home and getting them ready by setting them up to be strained, then taking off to the neighbors to help with the dairy cows. Coming home at about 9:30 that night I found myself actually putting the grapes up in the canner. Thanks to my dear, wonderful husband helping me with the last of the grapes, we finally called it a night about 11:30. Today it was quite cool in the morning so I went out back and collected the last of the pumpkins and cooked those up to warm up the house. Now I have a few pounds of chicken in the oven for dinner and to freeze ready for another time.

Oh, wait,  who is that at the door?

Why it is my friend Marsha, her two boys, and a lot of ROMA TOMATOES!  She said she had an abundance of them and was glad to give some away.  I can't wait to make more sauce and tomato soup.  My tomatoes didn't come up very well at all this year, and I had only bought enough to put up a few quarts of soup and sauce.   In trade, she agreed to take the zucchini and some butternut squash.

Cool temperatures,  Fall is close by!
