We all know that summer is done, fall...well we still see the colorful leaves on the trees even though the temperature was near 70 yesterday but we know that too will be gone soon. I also hope that it is coming to the end of the mixed emotions over losing so many animals over the last few months. Six animals in four months.
I had posted about our good milking doe not being able to kid, the loss of Grace, our Shepard and then Jake our wonderful black lab who I miss so much. We have lost Tom's kitty that he had since before we were married, and now the other day the instantaneous decision to take Bear, the border collie in to be put down. This was yet another of our "found" animals that apparently someone decided they didn't want and dump them off so generously in our woods. We cared for him for over three years and on Monday his temperamental attitude came to his demise. He could be a good dog, but the previous people must have abused him because he wasn't right in the head. He could be so good, but then turn at an instant if he felt the twinge of discontent or fear. Such is the situation the other day as we were having dinner. Noise from outside the door had Tom running knowing full well that the dog had gotten a cat. It was one of the newest kitties, born in June. Po-paya was probably coming on the porch to get in and Bear didn't like that. The situation was not good. Alas, these became numbers five and six.
Here is to another day as we learn to live here in the country.

That is the really hard part of life on the farm. I would love to give you one of our dogs. I don't know if my guys would go for it though.
