over the last few weeks. Canning, freezing. Pickles have come and almost gone getting a little more than 24 quarts. I know that will not be enough for the kids this year, but it is more than we had last year. I took time yesterday and cooked up and froze a half dozen butternut squash and two very large pumpkins. Since it was so very cool and damp it really was nice in the house. I roasted the pumpkin seeds too so the seasonings made it smell wonderful.
Yes, so much rain. Husband brought home a new front door that we bought many years ago but didn't get around to putting it in. It was to be dry this last weekend, but alas, wet again. I now have the grand sight of OSB on my outer wall. It will be well worth the wait though.
We have had a birthday here. Jess has turned 11! Some say she is a hard child to lavish with gifts on special occasions but actually she is easy. Her top pics of favorite gifts were a gift card to Barnes & Noble, and another gift card from her brother to Tractor Supply! Today she is taking her gift money and we are headed to the sale barn. I wonder if she slept all night???
We also had a loss. Jake, our black lab that we have had since we moved here had been fighting many problems the last year or so. Last Saturday we said our final goodbyes. I really miss him. In all the years of having dogs, (and I have owned way to many) He was the best find we could ask for. He just showed up as a throw away one day back in '97. We find many throw away animals out here in the woods, but there will never be another Jake.
School will be starting in the next week or so, we don't have a definite date yet, but I am thinking first week of September, so I will be heading over to the blog www.homeschoolblogger.com/pinehaven and updating for anyone that would like to read about that adventure.
With a dry day starting, I am off to turn on the Moody radio programs for the morining http://www.mbn.org/GenMoody/default.asp and do my moring tasks and chores. I turn on our local station about 7:00 a.m. and they open the hour with "Wonderful Grace of Jesus". Wakes you right up! From there they have more traditional music and many spots of devotionals. I really like to hear the Creation Moment, or Sunshine on the Soapsuds which is directed at the housewives and their role in the home.
Here's to a promising day.....!

Happy Birthday Jesse!!!! I am sorry about your dog.
Did all the pickles come from your garden?
Yes, I was tempted to buy a few more, but decided that we will just have to be content with what grew this year. I will remember to plant more next year!
