after years of running to fast and to much, taking the summer off from children's demanding schedules is finally starting to feel enjoyable.
The gardens and lawn is starting to really come out. The house has slowly come out of it's rushed clutter stage. I actually find myself taking a time out for a minute or two, but I still have that thought in the back of my mind, "Time". It is an aquired learned behavior that is going to take a lot of work to unlearn. There is efficient use of your time, then there is the time in which you run your life by the clock. This is what I am still working on.
Great deal grocery shopping. They were pushing hamburg and it was at a price I couldn't pass up. So Saturday I was playing with 30# of fresh hamburg. I know I must have made at least 20+ meat balls, six mixed loaves ready to pull and bake. and about four dozen premade hamburgers. I'm ready to go for a while.
While I was doing that, Tom and two of the children when to an outdoor event that talked all about hunting, fishing, canoeing. They had the opportunity to shoot a .22 or shotgun. Just a small event, but they had a good time and the Sportsman's Club there put on a big lunch too.
When Tom came home, we decided to take the tractor back and work on the new trail. Went great until he hit the swamp. It wasn't that wet, but with the 'hog on he sank, sank, sank. Taking it off and just getting the tractor out, we headed up to hay for about three hours. Then after some great meatball subs, headed back out to retrieve the 'hog. It wasn't that difficult pulling it out detatched. I was happy when he decided to get it back on and continue to blaze the trails. We finished up about 9:00 only to find the walkie talkie had been dropped somewhere along the way. Funny how we found it. Kept beeping the one until it showed up haning on a tree. When we was going over some sapplings in the way, one must have sprung back up and clung to the tree. Thankfully, he didn't run over it!
He is off to flea market today. I think he planned on going yesterday, but am glad he took the kids instead. While he is there, the youngest plans to go riding. The two girls and a neighbor friend went the other day and enjoyed a ride and a packed lunch. I like seeing them get on and have fun.
When they did this Friday, I stayed this because I didn't want to take Methias that far. I was mowing, but it started to give me grief as soon as the girls left so I decided to come in and make cookies to snack on. Just as I was putting the first sheet in, I see Methias had broke loose and was looking for his buddies. Wouldn't you know, there he was running out of the new neighbors driveway again! I decided to take a baked batch over and meet them since my animals have been there more than me. I am so glad that they are understanding.
Apparently, she is former Amish. She laughs and says she knows how horses can be. In our talk, she mentioned about horses on the road and said she never realized how slow the buggies can be. I thought that funny in an odd way.
Now again today the sun is shining and I plan to be outside enjoying it all. I may take the long handled trimmer and start on the limbs that are up in a riders way along the trail I may even take my son with me and have him help me find the property line on the north side so we can continue the trail along the perimeter of the property.
For such long, cold. closed in winters, I am outside on days like today and just look and the tall trees against the clear sky and listen to the breeze blow the tops of the trees or the birds calling to each other from near and far and know that this is what makes us stay.
