Life's hard

sometimes here at Muddy Boot.   Like today.   Our best milking doe and her kid didn't make it  through labor and delivery.   I had never had such a traumatic time with any animal before.   Last year was a tough delivery, given it was a late delivery and the kid was big.  But it came.  It was hard, but afterwards she got up and didn't have any problems afterwards.  This time I could tell from the onset of labor that it wasn't going to be good. Sparing sad details,  I just don't get it.   She was a multi-time kidder.  My alpine delivered from the same buck and she isn't seasoned at all.   What a great milker she was.   I sure am shaking my head on this one.   I have one ober left that is due anytime.  She doesn't look big, but her bag is a little more than usual.  I really hope that things go better.   She has only kidded once, and it was two buck.   Hoping to post happier news soon.

I am so sorry about the loss of your doe & kid. I read an article a couple of years back about a woman who raised goats and fed her goats red raspberry leaf and her goats didnt have complications with their delivery. It might be worth a try (if you dont already)

Here is a copy of the article:
