Who's counting?

So, I say I am canning.  Well, that is true.  What I buy from the local farmers.

I am thankful that they can grow the food to support my family.  This is what I harvested today. This is all that I harvested from my beet patch.  Actually, I was surprised that they grew at all!  It was my first attempt to grow them. Earlier, I harvested carrots that my daughter planted.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomatoes tomarrow.

This year I have relied heavily on the local farmers market for our eating, canning and freezing needs. We started our first garden in our new home this year. Needless to say I had major competition from the local deer. Next year will be different, but my harvest was not big enough to sustain a family of 6. We did get a good amount of onions, though. It is a start. I wish you the best in the furture.

God bless,

Jennie

I like to can too. It is so satisfying to see those colorful jars of food lined up on my basement shelves. May your week be blessed!...........Denise (prairiemom)

Heather, what do you think the problem was? I know with my beets, it was too many weeds.

I only got one measely Beet.Haha so I'm right there with ya!

Of course I also found out I had dry rot in my pumpkins I thought I'd try this year and my tomatoe plant? Grew really tall but no fruit. Very disappointing this year as the last few years have grown awesome. Oh well, live and learn right?

I'm grateful for the farmers as well for sharing their harvest!
