I just want to share the pics of my new cupboard my Dad made for me! You can see I keep my Sunday dishes inside. I didn't want something the kids would always be into, and the dishes were the key! I put a larger picture in my album.
actually these don't do justice to the real thing at all. It is a white milk paint and he put small ceramic nobs with paisley flowers on the door and drawer. The style matches my hoosier, but that is a long over due project. Now I have the motivation to refinish that!
Life on the mini farm has been moving right along getting ready for fall. Yes, I said fall. I have noticed the leaves on the trees starting to change. Traveling the highway every day I am starting to see the greens changing, and some of those autumn colors starting to come through. Have to get out there and start marking the trees for firewood! We have had many come down this year due to the beavers that have come in. Everyone around us is logging out and the wildlife have been on the move. In the ten years here we have never had a problem, but this year we find that instead of us clearing the pond area, it has been done for us. But we are left with down trees and clean up!
I see that the does are lightening up with the milk load, and I will soon be cutting back to just milking once a day. I have experamented with enough cheeses this year, tried the ice cream and puddings. I think that we have had our fill of milk. It is either feast or famine in that area. I want them dry by November so that they can be ready to kid again in the early spring. It takes five months, so no later than January. I am not one to have them to early as I don't want them to freeze out there! Maybe if there are does we may keep one? hmmmm......

I love it! It is gorgeous!
Your cabinet is really nice. And how special it is since your father made it. Something that you can probably pass down to one of your children someday.

Heather, the cabinet is an absolute treasure. I know that you will always cherish it.
Why do you dry your does off so early? I usually give mine 2 months before they kid to build up colostrum. We breed in November for April babies.
Heather, I appreciated your comment on my last blog. Your fall preparations sound like they are underway. Your new cupboard is beautiful. Your father does amazing work. You had asked about our Montana ornaments. I have a picture of a few of them in my photo album. It's the first picture in the bunch. Have a blessed week....................Denise (prairiemom)
