Ken came out the day after my birthday to do some squirrel hunting. Didn't make out to well but it was nice to see him. He stayed for the better part of the afternoon. I had saved him some chicken but not cake. I gave him a piece of my homemade apple pie instead.
I had made my own apple picker and picked the rest of the apples out front on our tree.
I thought it was great to get 7 more quarts of pie filling, but none of them sealed! So I made a pie and the rest I am going to shape in a shell and freeze. That was a bad day for canning.
Speaking of bad days, on my birthday we were coming home from Big Town when Becky and I saw lights flashing in the Jumbo. Passing by...yeah, you guessed it....Tommy. he said he had swerved to miss a deer and off the road he went. I couldn't see at first, but Tom was already there. He also was just heading home. A couple guys driving by helped push him out. A smashed front spoiler underneath and a bunch of grass but it seems as good as it always was.
Tom took off today to hunt. Tommy was to start a new job today and hardly had any gas and couldn't start the car again. Tom helped him but didn't get into the woods until after it was light. He said he didn't see much but enjoyed being out there on such a nice day. Jake came out yesterday and saw deer but no turkey and that is what he was hunting. Today Tom saw turkey but no deer. Go figure! They are out there because he caught some pictures on his game camera!
Mid day he worked on closing up the overhang over the back bedrooms. They were never done, so some scabbing has to go up there too.
It will make a big difference. I worked on cleaning out the barn in the morning.
In the afternoon Becky came out after work.
Out they go.
Hope they have good luck as it is awful warm for anything to be moving right now. The cats are in the mood for hunting apparently too. I found this "game" dinner brought in the mudroom tonight.
Making city chicken for dinner and enjoying the great Indian summer weather!
The leaves are almost all gone but when the sun shining through the woods it is fabulous!
