I decided to do some baking Saturday morning to get the edge off until the fire caught. I began with the usual bread making, but then worked my way through the cookie dough I had made a day or so earlier, a bundt pound cake that I used pulp I had frozen from the oranges Ken had brought us for making juice, and then made a half dozen small and one large heart shaped chocolate cake. While in the midst of my baking frenzy, Jake called and said he was on his way with some wood. I teased him about somehow knowing I was baking that morning!
He and Caleb showed up with a pick up full of dry wood ready to burn. A friend of ours that makes maple syrup told Tom he had a lot of wood this year and shared a load with us. When the young guys were over there, he ask them to surprise us with bringing over a load. It was a great surprise! In the midst of the snow storm coming, they unloaded it. Tommy was home so he and Jess went out to help. When they came in I had made venison ox roast for them to eat. Both guys had been at work since 4:00 a.m. milking cows, then brought the wood. I figured they might be hungry!
It was Tom's first day at work and wouldn't you know by afternoon it was really snowing. The plows never did make it out until way after dinner time. We trail blazed most of the roads, even the blacktop. You can see how deep it is as we are going down the road. Tom took me along with him when he took Tommy in. I caught this picture as we were going down our road. The snow was so deep that it pushed up under the car and made the blower run slow. We had someone tell us that it was so bad under their little car that when they ran the blower, the car hood just shook!
Another funny thing that happened was after church on Sunday. I was out in the mudroom cleaning up a bit when this tiger cat was all over me wanting to be petted. Quite irritating! I kept saying, "Diamond! What do you want?" I would pet her and she would jump up and eat a bit and come back down and want more attention. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. I was making so much fuss about it that Tommy came out to see what was going on. He bust out laughing! It wasn't Diamond at all! It was some other tiger cat that made it's way in the mudroom! Who? I don't know! But she ate and then we shooed her out and haven't seen her since. Boy oh boy!
