Ken has now left the building!

Ken has left the maintenance building behind for the wide open spaces. After spending six years working in a shop (yes, six years, he was 14 when he started) he applied for and was hired for a job at Russel Standard. They are a seasonal construction job that goes out on the road and does the road work. They are based out of Pittsburgh but work all over the state. He drove down the beginning of the week after doing paperwork and today he is attending the orientation and getting his boots and hardhat. I'm sure it won't be long before he has sign/shovel in hand. He says the pay is good while the work is there, and it will put him back in place and out of credit debt soon. I'm glad he is out of there, but as a mother will worry as he is out on the job!

So.....six days on and one day off means only one thing. I have a babysitting job. Her name is Miley. Puppy. Sigh. She is doing quite well because this home isn't new to her. We do have her caged once in a while for her safety and others. Like the cats. We don't know how she will be with the kitties.

They terrorize her and she loves to watch them, but I am afraid her pouncing puppy play may not be good for the little ones yet. The big cats will rip right into her if she gets to curious. She does get along well with Bob. Jack just doesn't play so she gets confused about it. I just don't like leaving her unattended because the last time we had a young dog (Stanley) he had to much fun ripping up the furniture.

Rainy days have come and even though it is cooler, I didn't feel like going outside to work. Yesterday I spent the better part of the afternoon mending socks and things. I hope I can move on to more fun things to sew soon. I have to much material waiting for me ! Tommy rode his bike into nearby town and said he put three applications in. He is going in with Tom tomorrow and should be looking there. Since the weather was wet, Jessalyn decided to stay inside and play games most of the day.

I did manage to go out and pick my first head of cabbage to make sauerkraut. It made up six quarts with one head.

I have two smaller ones coming up, and I noticed more of the broccoli heads are forming. I found three small pumpkins that are turning orange too!

And then I found this. Not happy! I did find one big one left on the fence. I think it is watermellon? Pumpkin? I don't know!
