Christmas Eve

We are taking Becky in to her dad's for Christmas eve, then she will meet up with us at my brother-in-laws tomorrow for dinner.  The boys are out there tonight for the dinner then will come back for the night being here for Christmas morning.

We are pushing to get things done so we can head out for the early candlelight service at church tonight.  Things are so different when the kids get older and are going there own ways.

I talked to Mom and Grandma is still resting.  I thought that with the morphine she would be sleeping a lot, but apparently she is awake and giving everyone what's for.   She is cracking  jokes left and right.  Dad went to give her some water on a sponge and she said, "MMMM!  My Manhattan!   Let me have a nibble on the cherry!"  and she pretended to nibble the sponge like a cherry.  Dad asked if she would like more and she told him not right now, but mix up another drink and set it on the table for later.

The preacher came in and they were singing Christmas carols.   She knew it was Christmas eve and had them sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.   She put her hand out to take Jesus hand.  She made a remark about Jesus birthday cake and said if she didn't hurry, her piece would be stale.

Then there is the garbage bag story.   She was very serious as she called Dad over.  Making him lean down to talk to him, she told him gravely, " Listen closely.  Go get a garbage bag.  Bring it up here.   Stuff me in it.  Set me at the curb."   Although I'm sure she was in pain even with the morphine, she didn't show it but really she has had enough and wanted to pass on.

She just keep telling the nurses, "I don't know why God won't take me.  I won't cause him any trouble."

Hoping all stays well in Florida for Mom and Dad at least for the next few days.
