We have had the pleasure of Tom being with us now since Sunday. He was coming out in the crappy blizzard conditions that morning for Tom's birthday. We were surprised enough to see Ken because of the weather, let alone expect Tom to come out. As we were sitting down for the rib snack about 1:30, Tommy gave us a call. We just handed the unanswered phone to Tom, thinking it was for birthday wishes. Instead, it was a distress call. He wanted Tom to come out and help him. With the roads not plowed well (surprise, surprise) It was basically one lane out on the blacktop. He had apparently saw a small wannabe truck coming and was trying to slow down, even stop he said, so that the truck could go by and he could continue on. Upon trying to slow down, the car started to skid. Right into the wannabe.
Apparently, they were going slow enough that the guys airbag diployed because of the hit, but Tommy's did not. They both agreed they were both only doing about 25. However, this accident totaled both vehicles. Now he is without a car. His dad let him use this one because it was beat. He was to get good tires for it the first paycheck he got. That saved him money but didn't spare the car.
Fortunately, he is working in Girard, and first shift to boot. So for now he is staying with us and Tom is transporting him back and forth as hours are working together for the time being.
I just don't know how any of these kids are going to get ahead. Low paying jobs, if any, and bills over flowing. I don't remember it being this hard.
