Up to and Including the Weekend

It has been a hot summer!  A good one for hay too.   The neighbors are  clearing the last load for the night off of  the next door field.

Recreational activities in the heat

And then the rain sets in.  Of course it is on the day of the Fun Horse show.  And of course it has to come right before it starts.

The group got together for a tureen dinner Saturday night.  Started out with just a handful of us.  Then as show time came, more riders showed up.  I thought for sure that with the rains that they would call it.   NOT!  It was just a light rain, but you can see that it went on, and on, and  on.    Hours passed.  The group that rode had fun, but the rest of us watching or helping may have another opinion!  As you can see, it was cold, dark, and rainy.   It didn't start until 7:00.

Becky was one of the riders that ran the Dolly Parton Race.  You had to run the ring, dismount, put on a BIG bra, and then insert the water balloons.  You had to ride out of the ring wearing this apparatace without breaking any!  They guys had the mellon size water balloons!

Jess had to ride in and then jump off and lure Dusty out with a carrot without touching her!   It was muddy enough to ride, but when you have to get off and run yourself out of the ring,  YUCK!

You can see Tom was having so much fun in the mud measuring for the pole bending event.

By about 10:00 the timers weren't working because of rain, riders were cold and wet, and Becky and Jessie decided to not run the last two events and load their horses on the trailer and wait to come home. You can see how wet the horses were, and how soaked Tom's back is.  The girls  did place in quite a few events,  either placing first, or at least getting a ribbon.   But the whole idea of the evening was just for fun and not to ride under pressure.   Guess with the rain, they really kept their "cool"!  There are a few more trail rides planned, but that is just about it until the big dinner in October.
