We were doing so well with melting snow. Slow melting even so we weren't flooding. Then the big storm started to hit. Coming down the blacktop Saturday afternoon you can see how things are covered with that terribly wet, heavy snow. It was almost like a white igloo slushy everywhere. Becky thought it was pretty enough to take a picture though.
We venutred out that day to the .25 store and then visited with Ken a while. He was actually home! Seems that his cat Sassy is adjusting well. She was much friendlier than when I first saw her. She has some fish to torture now too because he has his big tank up and going. It is hard to get a hold of him because he is never home when I call. Between working, going out on calls, and just being up at the firehall for practice doesn't leave much time for family or chit-chat.
The snow was coming down pretty steady so Tom decided to go down and pre-shovel at the church for Sunday service. By Sunday Morning, it was so wet and heavy that it was hard snowblowing it. The temps were right up there to keep it slushy. Tom and I went out to do morning chores contimplating church. While we were out there, Jess called out and told us the paperman was stuck in the driveway. So Tom trudged up there to push him out. He had already done our driveway a half hour before so it shouldn't have been bad. He tried backing in and turning around in his two-wheel drive wannabe truck. Where he ended up was literally stuck intersected across the road. It hadn't been plowed right then and it was deep with ice underneath. There he sat with the plow now deciding to come down the road.
Tom and I pushed him back into our driveway, and in following through across the road, I stepped into the rut he was in, in the road. It was as deep as my ankle. I watched as the township plow slowly went by. Do you know that he plowed only as wide as his plow for the whole road, all day???? Coming home from church we would have to stop and see if cars could even pass each other. You could clearly see that there was a good 3 feet on each side not even plowed!
Anyway, when the driver got stuck, he had thrown a very small amount of corn down for traction. HA HA like that would have done any good in the wet, sugary stuff. Well, I guess it wasn't to buried because yesterday afternoon when I was getting dinner ready, I looked up and saw one, then two deer right there at the end of the driveway digging at the corn left behind.
That was pretty cool, but then the word spread because then came a third and then a fourth!
They were digging for 15-20 minutes before the school bus came and they ran off. I don't know how much they were looking for, I know there wasn't that much there. They were probably just wishing there was!
Another good thing to be home Sunday afternoon. Tommy called and we talked for quite a while before I had to pass the phone. He sounded really good even if he wasn't thrilled at what the last few weeks had been. The girls got a chance to talk to him, and so did Tom. I know he liked talking to him about what he was doing and what will be happening. Once when Tommy called they talked about the artillery he was shooting and when they got off the phone, Tom went right over and looked it all up online!
I tend to go and get on the AF page once in a while to see what is going on or to see just what Tommy is talking about. Tom always manages to get a quick glimpse over my shoulder!
