The sun was fixed in the sky in the morning and as the clouds came in from the west to the east, the sun reflected off them in a continual motion. It went on for at least ten minutes. It was so pretty! Sometimes looking out my window is the best part of the day!
Being Tom's Friday, we took some time out and ran to town while Jess was in school. Not much and not far, but we had a little bit of time out. The neighbor had sold off some livestock which left her with a goat that needed to be dried off, so she ask if I would mind coming down and milking her out. I was a little leery as this was her first kidding and she had never been hand milked. She was wonderful! I only wish mine did as well for a first milking when I had them.
We went down again over the weekend and helped her throw some hay and do another milking. I was surprised at how fast the doe is coming in drying off. Another new thing to try, the Christmas gift Tom and I gave each other. We broke out the grinder. He wanted hamburgs for dinner and I was grossed out at the thought of bought 'burger. I mentioned using some of the venison we had. He wasn't sure how it would turn out with less fat in it. So we ground it out and I took just a bit of lard to put in the pan and fried it up. It wasn't dry at all and held together really well. We ate those, and then he ate the rest that I had did half and half to extend the test of difference. All the same. So now we know we can do straight venison for burger too.
