A daily morning routine is to get the chores done and then run the dogs. Jack is getting used to going out with me when I hang the clothes and pick the blackberries in the morning. This has been a very good year for them. I think I have picked 4 quarts of wild berries for the freezer.
Tommy was out on his bike and found elderberries. He brought home enough to clean and make two pies. It is the first time I have ever made that kind of berry pie. It was really good!
In order to make the pie, I had to make more cooking lard. I love making this myself. I know exactly what is in it. And it is easy to do! Cut into small pieces and melt until the chunks turn a golden color. Any longer, you may get a meaty taste, or funny color. Strain it through a coffee filter and let cool. Done!
We had Bible School all last week. Big classes too! I think there were 10+ kids in each class we had. We acted out as maidservants and told the story of David, Agbigail, and Nabal from Matthew 26:5.
Spotty rains are producing goodies. Here is a sampling of pumpkin, cantalope, and broccoli.
I cut four heads of broccoli and washed and put them in the freezer. I never blanche, and always have success.
The fun show was over, and then came the Ultimate Cowboy Race. Twelve obsticles or so to complete in, three levels. Jess placed second in beginners, and first in advanced and experienced. I'm glad she tried the latter, her horse needs to pick up it's pace.
As if the race wasn't enough, Ken came out the next day and rode with Jess for a few hours. He took out Artie, the unruly horse according to Jess. Artie didn't give Ken any problems at all. No bucking, rearing, charging. Just went off on a great ride. I told him I was going to hire him to come out once a week to ride him.
While he was gone, he left Miley with us. She is always so excited to see Bob. So excited it resulted in having to give her a bath and clean her up. Other than that she was a good dog.
