syrup!

Friday night we were ask to go help with making syrup.  Tom had already been there this year, so he knew what had to be done.   This is Brian, he was showing me around the sugar shack. Tom kept the fire hot to boil the sap.

They have two huge boilers!  While I was there I bottled 15 pints and about 2 dozen quarts.  Brian took care of  loading the sap into the boilers,  we had to keep the fire hot and the temperature just right.   We were there about three hours.

The next night, the church held the Big Game dinner.   The guys were setting up in the dining area, and most of the women were setting up the food in the cafeteria.

They had all kinds of meats this year.  Elk meatballs, beaver,  turtle soup.   I stuck to the broccoli salad and desserts!  The next day we had the tureen after church.   Left over meats were available, but luckily they had lasagna there too, so it was still o.k. to eat!

After enjoying eating out for the last few days, it was time to work.   The girls were not here, of course.  They went to a friends house after the lunch at church and would go right to youth group with them.   Tom and I on the other hand, well, we were stuck doing the manure that had piled up over the last week.   This always worked using the tractor, but after so many heavy loads, the old bed liner finally gave way when it became stuck on the tree.   Tore up pretty bad.  So Tom unhooked it and it sits in the pines as we take our time unloading it by hand.   At least someone liked being outside~   BOB!
