Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Really? No one knows what they are doing the first time around. The second time around. Everyone seems to know what to do with other peoples children though. You think you have direction and do the best you can by the seat of your pants only to find that you are left sitting on that seat abruptly and left in the dust.
Direction and instruction, always trying something different but always turned towards the same goal. Bring them up confident, strong, and for a fear of the Lord. Even in a parents fumble you try and let them see at the end of the day your heart should return to the right place.
Not being able to see beyond the next revealing moment you continue to try and teach them at the point they are at that time. Like when you teach math. You start with the basics and when you understand that, it becomes clear why you needed it for the next step.
So how do you reach a child that is not an auditory learner but a kinesthetic learner? The ones that have to learn by doing first?
I have read recently about not looking far from the tree. I can understand this. I have had my turn in growing up, making mistakes, making accomplishments. As a parent though I have tried figuring out where I might have come across as allowing the behavior and decisions that are being made. Consenting to behavior that is unacceptable and clearly can not be reasoned away.
Prayer, four hours sleep, and now more prayer.
Time for a cup of joe and see the direction I am led today.

Being a parent is the single most demanding challenge there is, amen? We always question what we have done, will do, and could have done better. Yet, if we are confident in the Lord, and we have done all that we know to do, according to His word, then, we may rest secure in that knowledge, certain that He will keep His promises to watch over us and our babies. I am praying for you, even now
Praying for you Heather. It is hard. It hurts. You feel helpless. Keep telling yourself that God is bigger. Cry out to God daily, hourly minute by minute to hang on tight to them. Then BELIEVE He hears and is answering you.
There will be baggage, but God can help with that as well.
