Hot spot is what we got

and it comes in the form of humidity!   The cool nights had dropped the pool temps, but by afternoon the kids didn't care and off they went into the water.  Is it begining of fall?  It is hard to tell.   The leaves are turning quickly, but the humidity is very deceiving.   Very warm winds blew through yesterday only blowing the leave from the trees revealing yet more sun and heat.

You know who is keeping cool in our woods?   The renegade horses, that is who.   Someone in the area has lost a mare and a stallion yearling, and they are in our woods occationally.  I was mowing and couldn't figure out how our equine got out and manured near the garden and out front.   I thought maybe when I was gone the others put them back in.   Then Jess said she took a walk through our short path by the side of the house that leads to the pond (bog, now)  and counted at least four piles!   I would much rather see that than bear droppings,  but one being a stallion really bothers me.  No matter how young it is.   I don't need any more problems with the horses, escpecially between a stallion and my gelding.  Matthias is to protective of his girls.  I think a confrontation would be more harm for just his hoof alone.

Turkeys have disappeared the last few days and I really think it is because of the wandering horses.

What to do with squash?   I have that growing yet.  I took the butternut the other day and hollowed out the seed area and put in some hamburg and rice.    Baked that up and it was good!    I wonder if I can do the same with half a pumpkin?  Or get it ready and freeze it as a half to be heated later in the season?   I have over a half dozen pumpkins yet to get up.

I did pick up tomatoes at the sale for soup but haven't picked any for sauce.  "To lazy",  says the grasshopper.

Found a wonderful hymn CD from Randy Travis to play while working in the kitchen.  Guess I better put it in and get to work on putting up that food!

It doesnt seem like fall right now, except for the sounds of the crickets.
