when you live like we do. The past few days have been busy ones, and now with the cool weather here, most people would be ready to go back to working outdoors, enjoying the lower temps. I on the other hand will be doing the same, but it doesn't mean that I have been procrastinating because of the heat.
For the most part, we have been taking advanage of the dry weather here and putting up hay. We did 500 square bale last time. Dry weather has meant extra work for the household too. We can take our showers, cook. But laundry and excess water useage has come to a halt. Thankfully the truck can hall the 55 gallon barrels of water we need to water the animals and do the clothes. The laundry had become overbearing because of the workers and the excess heat so I had to break down and take it to the local laundry mat yesterday. It was just shy of $20, but I am caught up. The breeze after the much welcomed rain yesterday dried most quickly.
The slight bit of rain we had yesterday (even downpour and thunder) wasn't even a dribble when you think of our well. Thankfully it hasn't gone completely dry.
An advantage of dryness was that most mosquitoes are gone for the moment so we can actually go out and sit in the yard at night. Drawbacks are that the flies are plentiful. I went to the store yesterday and they were out of fly strips and had only one package of swatters left. It was the third store I tried to by swatters! I had never used strips before, but was willing to try anything at this point. I began to feel like I lived in the third world or something. Flies everywhere!
Something interesting I found in my garden yesterday. My daughter spotted a butterfly moth going from flower to flower along my pickle fence. Weirdest thing, it is a bug but looks like a hummingbird!
Another event was our local goat group hosted Goatfest, a day long event that promoted the goat and what the goat can do and other benefits of having a goat. We took the boys and gave rides for about two hours. The heat was awful, and even that was to long when taking turns.
Ken was helping serve goat burgers that day in the kitchen.
It all seems to go really well. They did a great job planning, and the turn out was more than what they expected!
