Most of, if not all of the snow piles are gone. It is dark in the mornings now without the contrast of the snow but I'm sure that I will adjust! For the last two nights I have heard the peepers in wet grass. I hear the birds gathering and migrating back into the area. That is the best time of spring and fall. We have an area on our west side that the birds fly in to regroup for the summer. The noise! It goes on for five or ten minutes and then they are gone. I love hearing them come in. Just standing out there for those few minutes is one of the things that I anticipate after a long, quiet winter. Then we have the other birds. The turkey buzzards have been back for a week or so now. Ugly old things.
I have gone a little wild with the discount packets of seeds this year. I wonder if I will ever have it dry enough to start planting? I have seen in the latest Countryside magazine where a woman grew half dozen or so cabbage heads in one tire! I'm thinking that maybe this will be the way to go if I don't want underground veggies this year. They made it look really nice by having walkways throughout her tire garden.
